This poor guy has caused quite an uproar.

This is a 4 year old Saddlebred gelding known as “Neo” we picked up at auction.

We chose him because we recognized him. We felt obligated to help him. Our whole team there had seen this horse show, and that made the choice easy. Not one of the five of us there could stomach the idea of leaving him.

Further, one of our fosters who wasn’t present is a long time SB trainer, and she personally wanted to help him.

We pulled him out.

That set off a whole round of posts from everyone who ever had anything to do with him from his conception on, even the second person who took possession of him who traded him to the person who ran him to auction. The rescue gets dragged into it as if we have been dishonest by saving this horse (and have no doubt – this was a save.) We play on “emotion” and are, I quote, “Ridiculous.”

Really, now? We are the ridiculous group?

We are quoted as posting (I have to laugh because we said nothing of the sort) on one of these threads I’ve been linked to: “We saved 2 and the other 50 went to the kill buyer.”

I posted under the photo of the Appy we did buy who was in a pen of 4 horses, he was was the only one that didn’t go to a kill buyer. We were told the kill buyers there are the low digit numbers, and when Buyer 13 loaded up at the end of the night, having paid under $50 for each of the other 3 horses after most everyone else had gone, every horse in the pen with the Appy we pulled went in that trailer, falling and screaming, with all the others the man purchased, It takes no real thought to recognize what type of buyer he was. I’ve been going to auctions my entire life. It isn’t rocket science.

If he was just a trader who buys in bulk to haul to another auction, those unhandled, normal weight horses purchased for under $50 each are going to a killer buyer, if not this stop, another. Traders are kill buyers, as well, folks. You buy $40 horses and run them through New Holland or Sugar Creek, you don’t have to have a meat license to be a kill buyer. Please, be serious. We surely never said or even slightly insinuated the only horses at the auction to make it out were the two we bought. Though the fates for many will be bad, to say the least.

So, it shows the length folks go to when they have handled something poorly and want to put the blame anywhere. . .even on the folks cleaning up the mess.

Sigh.

Did you follow all that?

Let me be clear: I do not care what the horse has done, why, when or where. I do not care about the bickering, maligning and she said/he said stories. . .

I do not do this to hear “people” stories.

We picked the horse up because No horse deserves to be dumped at auction with a bleak outlook, and since we personally knew this horses name, WE would and could NOT leave him behind.

The horse has a reputation at 4 years old of being dangerous. Maybe he deserves it. Maybe he is Rogue and unsafe, and if we find that he is that, we will see he is humanely put down and doesn’t end up at another auction. We will see our obligation through.

We hope we find that isn’t the case, but whatever the truth about him is, in the end. . he will never suffer because of it.

We had the wild boys out today. . .

I’m not going to lie to you, they were a bit wild. Neo was a superstar on the trail, but a wild man indoors. Stitch was a wild man on the trail, but a superstar inside. We can’t have is all every single time. We lived and got the T-shirts, though.

This guy is gorgeous.

Meet Neo. . .outside of the auction pen!

While he has a reputation, and he is a handful, he was a good guy for his rider today, once he was out of the barn.
