AS OF 4/21, Unless a situation is a dire emergency for a horse where an owner cannot afford basic care and the horse is in critical condition, A COST OF IMMEDIATE CARE DONATION of $500 PER HORSE to cover the immediate vet/farrier costs PLUS TRANSPORT or Transport costs will usually need to come with the horse. Please explain your situaiton in detail, so that if you cannot send your equine with a donation for their initial vet exam, we can see whether we can still help. We wish the economic giving situation was different, but at this time, it is not. We cannot always say “YES” To all requests. Submitting this request for Heart of Phoenix to accept your horse(s) or equine(s) into rescue does not guarantee we will be able to accept them. Ability to donate does not assure we can accept your horse, but We WILL try to help you and your equines when we can, as quickly as we can.
Please read this page fully. This form applies to rescue facilities transferring and owners surrendering.
IF WE AGREE to accept your horse, THEN NEXT, MAKE SURE YOU FILL THIS SURRENDER FORMย OUT ONCE WE have a pick up or on the delivery date
Once a horse is surrendered to Heart of Phoenix, the horse cannot return to the surrendering owner for any reason. Surrender is final. Heart of Phoenix will not provide you direclty with specifics of that horseโs care or adoption once the horse comes to us, though we do share many public updates on horses, so seeing how they are doing is very likely in this manner.
Heart of Phoenix IS NOT a sanctuary. We work to see all horses adopted. We Never Euthanize for space. A healthy, safe and happy horse remains with us until adoption, no matter the age, even if that takes years or never happens at all.
We have a HIGH standard of quality of life for horses that goes further than many facilities that hold horses. We believe in our standard. We will not offer less to any horse coming to us.
We adhere to the American Academy of Equine Practitioners guidelines, paired with The Five Freedoms for Equines:
- Freedom from thirst, hunger and malnutrition
- Freedom from discomfort
- Freedom from pain, injury and disease
- Freedom to express normal patterns of behaviour
- Freedom from fear and distress
Please read this fully before asking Heart of Phoenix to accept your Horse(s).
Please DO read the full euthanasia policy below, as many times owners surrendering do not realize because they havenโt done extensive blood work, lameness exams and x-rays with a vet recently, that their horses actually have chronic conditions.
All horses coming to HOP receive extensive diagnostics to be sure they have excellent life quality ahead and do not have chronic conditions or pain impacting their futures. Behavior assessments and evaluations of safety are given.
The company of other animals (particularly of like kind), as well the Five Domains for Equine Wellness.

Adequate comfort and shelter, freedom from stress or fear
The prevention of vice** injury, parasitic infestation and disease
