Sorry everyone for the long gap, my internet has been wonky and eventually quit working all together. But the lanky guy with tech support says I’m good to go. (may the fleas of a thousand camels infest his armpits if he’s lied).. So hello again 😉
Alright, back to the rescue and all the amazing updates we’ve both missed.
This is just such an awesome before and after. . . .
This is a case where we had no room and just purchased and hauled the mare out of the hellhole she was in (same place Misty recently came from 2 years later) and moved her to a few places to find the right person for her.
She is now with a 4H home – Thank you Sandy for seeing her rehabbed and placed — with Sandy Hall.
Information from her owner:
Dob April 7, 2011. She’s approx 15.1-15.2. She’s utd on shots and coggins. She accepts a saddle and bridle, plays with the bit, but not bothered by it. Has been stat on bareback, just briefly.
She’s also very smart and essentially fearless.
No fee to experienced home that can get her started undersaddle and trained
On contract and after application approval
So now we just drive out to random mine sites and sell the herd from there? http://huntington.craigslist.org/grd/4608122774.html
Maybe the most beautiful horse we ever rescued and placed. . .
Like ever.
A fairy tale is Glory. . .
Another of lovely beyond words Glory.
What a magical girl she is who calls NC home now.
Skye is a 7 year old Quarab mare.
She is 14.1 HH and is up to date on all vaccinations and Coggins.
Skye is a highly intelligent and sensitive mare.
She has had extensive desensitization work and some natural horsemanship.
She is a go anywhere trail partner – fearless.
Skye is for solid intermediate rider who plans to ride frequently and develop a relationship with her.
Skye has a clear need for that special connection with a human and really learns wants to be a part of her person’s life.
$350 fee
6 year old Reg. SB gelding
This boy is friendly and seems curious about everything. He likely will require an experienced rider once rehabbed.
He has been shown and is 5 gaited.
$500 fee
Teddy’s adopter is over the moon with him.
They are having a blast on frequent trail rides. She says he is just the most awesome guy! — with Nicky Walters and 2 others.
Teddy out blazing trails in his adoptive home
Look for an article on HOP in the Cabell and Putnam Standard newspapers this coming week.
Alfie!
Thank you so much to those you have committed to help us save horses in need in this area where there is so much to be done and so little in the way of resources! If you thought about it in the past, remember, no amount is too small. Giving whatever you can give it all we ask IF you feel the weight of this need on your heart!
Memphis and his adopter getting a lesson from Aubrey at Adkins Quarter Horses — with Aubrey Carey.
Ignore my narration. . .I intended to dub music over when I recorded, but decided to just leave it as is.
This was filmed Saturday at Sunday Stables where SIX HOP horses reside. 4 are adoptable, 2 are adopted and boarded there.
Nothing fancy. . .just bringing them to you, our awesome facebook fans!
You see Ellie (adoptable), Bettie (Adoptable), Alice (Adopted), Reece (Adopted), Stich (adoptable) and Wynn (adoptable)
Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains to bring it to light.

How true this proved today for us!
We will share the story in a few short weeks, but let me just say we have a heck of a dedicated team that attained justice for one of our horses today.
Grace’s story so far
(remember to be able to watch, view on a pc verses a phone)
Dear person who emailed me about abandoned dog you’ve found demanding I come to the rescue . . .
What makes you believe I am so much kinder and more endowed than you to save the day?
You are there. You have two arms, two legs and a body to save the day, too, just so you know.
Just so you know.
Pretty Pepper comes to HOP tomorrow and goes directly into training in Ky with Eliza C of http://www.lizasacstables.com/
She has been kind enough to donate a month’s training for her! She will be adoptable soon!
She is 3 years old / TWH or TWH Cross
Yesterday we received the most amazing commitment for a monthly donation from someone with SUCH a touching story.
He told me of growing up with his father hauling horses to slaughter. He explained that the first time they actually stayed long enough to see a horse killed with a captive bolt many, many years ago. . .his father loaded the horse that was left back on his trailer, took her home and never took another horse to that end.
He helps save horses on his own from that fate, and I am so thankful he found the work we do worthy of the much needed support he has offered to donate to HOP!
Because of his commitment, today I was able to offer to help this mare another rescue in Ohio that is at capacity picked up today. They will bring her to us tomorrow. . .she was rescued from the same sad place that Grace came from.
Claire has arrived. She has a LOT of issues – some lameness, obviously emaciated. . .either having recently foaled or in foal. . .infected wounds on her face 🙁
We need funding now to get her well – paypal equinerescue@live.com or http://www.wvhorserescue.org/donate.html

Just heard from the person that helped get Claire to us that she was told she had just foaled and the foal died. It is no wonder the foal passed, given her condition.
Claire
Young mare from Chillichothe, Ohio area arrived to HOP today
Seems to have recently foaled from all appearances. We heard the foal died –
She is lame and has some open lacerations and active infection in the face from someone trying to drag her onto a trailer.
This Haflinger mare needs a home asap. She was rescued by a person in Genoa, WV. She has a colt the person plans to keep. She needs farrier work, worming, etc. She is still too thin for a Haffie, but the person who has her says she has come a long way. She is clearly the boss mare in a herd, but I rode her around with just the halter/lead rope, and she appears to be a well trained, no bad behaviors. She is tall for a Haffie, as you can see (I am over 5’8”).
She is likely around 10. She has limited vision in this right eye, but it doesn’t effect anything and appears to be from previous trauma. As usual, reference contact for your vet and farrier is required, as well as facility photos and overview of the home you can offer. No fee after approval. Email to equinerescue@live.com

Some exciting news. . .
Turner’s story has unexpectedly been trending on Youtube and across Facebook.
We had no idea we would discover all the sharing going on with his story from 2013, but we had been discussing turning his story into a fundraiser children’s book, and so the announcement should go hand in hand with his amazing story being circulated so much!
This is a preliminary share of a rough sketch done by HOP volunteer, Suzanna J, and tweaked by me in Photoshop. . .
She already has some lovely images drawn out for the book and has a storyline worked up.
We hope to have these done in time to be delivered by Christmas!!
