Worried Riders, I see You

I want to speak to the horse people who are constantly worried while they ride.

I am one of them. I’ve learned to sing and breathe through it some, but I’m still that person.

I did not learn to ride until I was 26 and I really think that makes a difference.

Maybe you are a rider who didn’t come to horses until later. Maybe you have ridden all your life, but you had a bad wreck.

If you are a worried rider there is pretty much nothing anyone can do to make you get out of your head.

But

You need to find a horse that can deal with it and keep trucking.

Because if you get a horse that has been used to being alert to keep her herd safe, or a sensitive horse or a horse that is by nature a worrier

You are going to manifest your fears by trying to partner with that horse.

Chances are someday you actually will have things go really wrong on that horse.

One of you has to be the cool headed confident, adept participant on the team.

I get it. Trust me I do.

If you ride in your head, constantly saying silently “please don’t let a deer pop out, please don’t let the wind blow, please don’t let there be dogs…”

You Have to find a horse to partner with who is nonchalant about all the things.

If you are on a looky loo who notices the beetle on the leaves and dances sideways at puddles you are only setting yourself up for disaster because your own apprehension will increase on that type of horse.

There are riders out there for all the horse personalities. You owe it to your horse to make sure you fit and complement his or hers.
