Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue, a 501©3 organization is based in Huntington, but we work across West Virginia, offering rescue to horses and providing counties and law enforcement assistance in horse neglect and abuse cases throughout Appalachia. We are the foremost organization of this type in our state.
In addition to saving horses living in cruel and negligent situations, we offer no cost equine services to families experiencing temporary hardship, allowing them to care for their horses during a job loss. Additionally we offer the only approved equine training to sheriffs’ departments and animal control units to educate their officers on safety and procedure when handling horses.
Our all-volunteer efforts have garnered firm positive recognition throughout the United States, being acknowledged by businesses like Tractor Supply (where we are currently featured in “Out Here” Magazine for Fall 2015), as well as Horse Illustrated Magazine, and national animal welfare groups like the Humane Society of the United States. The local media has frequently covered the organization’s efforts, and we have a very well established online presence with approximately 50,000 followers between our frequently used social media outlets, website and blog.
We not only offer aid to neglected horses, but we provide no cost equine services to families experiencing temporary hardship, often senior citizens who loves their horses but have limited incomes but cannot bear the thought of losing their beloved horse. Perhaps most importantly, when sheriffs or animal control officers in counties through West Virginia need assistance to handle large or small equine cases, Heart of Phoenix steps in covering all costs in counties often otherwise unable to cover the high board and vet costs of neglected horses.
Because of our efforts since 2009, there have been almost 300 horses saved, as well as a notable improvement in equine care statewide. Our counties are better equipped to handle equine cruelty complaints.
We feel certain your company believes in the importance of working to eradicate animal neglect and abuse in West Virginia through innovation and education, as well as valuing the one of a kind assistance we give law enforcement in these important cases.
