Creating Partnerships and Breaking Down Barriers in the Horse World: Heart of Phoenix finds amazing success with the Appalachian Trainer Face Off

Posted on:

Simply rescuing horse is not enough. It never will be. I remember a blog penned by a vet working in the small animals world, and his words have stuck with me the last year or so, and that was that we simply cannot sanctuary or rescue our way out of the issues animals in need face.

We have to be proactive and create real, lasting change.

The time seems right, and I suspect awesome change is on the horizon. I am finally seeing a small turn in the tide in the horse community. There are groups and organizations now having conversations beyond straight forward “pick up, rehab and house” approach; the horse industry seems willing, interested and open to the conversation, though we certainly will not agree on everything.

While bringing in a dog, cat or even a small animal to your home is something one really needs to take seriously, the addition of a horse is honestly a whole new level of consideration.

The expense, space and skill level, as well as the term of the commitment is many times over that of the addition of a new puppy to the family.

Your Old Horse Deserves Better

Before you dump, give away or sell your “old” and disadvantaged horses, PLEASE REMEMBER this mare’s story. We see it over and over again. If you cannot love and care for your old horse, GIVE that horse decency, kindness and consideration, and let your home be the last known. Do not let the horse go out there where the odds are slim life will ever be very kind.

How (literally) EVERYONE Can Effectively Help Animals In Need in America

Posted on:

NONE OF US can do everything, but we TRULY CAN All do SOMETHING, and that will change the world for animals in need, folks!

The task before us is enormous, there is no doubt.

Unfortunately, because there is so much to do and so often, it feels as if we are emptying the ocean with a teaspoon, some people turn away saying, “I cannot do all of this.”

True enough. You cannot do everything.

You may not even be able to do many things to help animals in need, but I assure you, you CAN do one thing (or several).
