Near the first of September 2015, Heart of Phoenix was
contacted about a tiny 6-8 week old Miniature Foal. She
was orphaned due to neglect when she was rescued from
her herd. She would not have survived much longer had
the lady not went in for her.
Her video, DO have a plethora of tissues handy:
Her eyes have died in their sockets. She is 100% blind, and
her eyes are likely very painful and need removed as
soon as possible.
She weighs a bit over 30 lbs at 2 months of age, and while
her initial rescuer has improved her condition in the weeks
she has had her, she is still in very critical condition, being very
thin with extreme weakness in her rear legs, with rainrot in
addition to the need for surgery on her eyes.
As with so many of our cases, we just know when they
belong with Heart of Phoenix. We are full, but she is so
very, very small, after all.
And while our mission is to rescue those with a good
chance of finding homes, we KNOW that this little filly:
Blind, hurting, malnourished and nearly broken. . .if she
can be saved, can offer a story that will inspire children
and adults alike.
So we Said Yes, and today she was carried into HOP:
Carried into HOPE, one might say
I’ve seen thinner, Yes. I’ve seen more critical, but for whatever reason, I’ve seen none that touched me deeper. . . as I believe none have ever come to us so entirely helpless – As rescuers, that has to touch us the mostly deeply, really.

We will be taking her to Rood and Riddle as soon as an appointment can be made tomorrow. Her original rescuer was kind enough to bring her to HOP today and donate toward her care. We thank her for making the right choice in saving her and bringing her to HOP!
Until then, she rests happily with HOP president’s two small bottle dairy doe kids – and seems to enjoy the company. . .

Right now, she is both the saddest and most adorable rescue I’ve ever held in my arms, I can assure you of that. I’m so thankful we could be there to begin her Journey to what we will work very hard to make a fairy tale.

I’m so happy that she is safe and can know that people are kind. I signed up for a monthly donation. It is a small amount, but maybe with others it will add up. I think her name should be Esther. Thank you for making these horses know human love and compassion.
